Parent & Community Activities

Supporting the parents and carers of children with complex needs

Being a parent is hard work. When your child has a disability or developmental delay, it can be even harder. Support from an understanding community can make a big difference.

These activities are ways we try to support you.

Parent Info Nights

We run a parent information night every two weeks during term time. Each night includes a short presentation on a specific topic. After the presentation, you can ask questions and get advice.

These events are free, but we ask you to register in advance so that we have numbers for planning. Everyone is welcome, whether you are working with us already, on our waitlist, or simply part of the local community.

Should you need strategies that are specifically tailored to your child, you also have the opportunity to book a one-to-one phone consultation with one of our occupational therapists. It’s some extra support for parents and carers in the community, or on our waitlist.

Events and topics are listed on our calendar.

Wine, Whinge and Wisdom - Parent Catch Ups

Parenting a child with additional needs can be quite isolating. No one understands what is happening on a daily basis better than another person who is living it every day.

We hope to create a space for all of our Little Hands OT parents to have a wine (and some cheese of course), whinge a little and share your knowledge and wisdom - a space where you feel seen, understood and welcome.

Baby Drop-In Sessions in Partnership with Country Children’s Physiotherapy.

The first 12 months of your baby’s life can be scary, especially for your first child when you have no idea what to expect. You may worry about whether your child is developing normally, or at an appropriate speed.

These free drop-in sessions are a chance for you to ask an expert.

A physiotherapist and occupational therapist will spend 10-15 minutes each assessing your child’s skills. One of our occupational therapists will spend the same amount of time looking at posture, fine motor skills, social skills and so on.

During the drop-in session we review your child’s development and provide tips and tricks, for example small exercises, or advice on positioning and support. We also might recommend certain toys and activities to help your child develop a specific skill. Should we have any concerns, we will recommend an in-depth assessment to allow for tailored supports to be put in place.

Baby drop-ins are held on the 1st Tuesday of every month.

Please pre-register as it helps up plan.

Start-Up Session.
Looking for support? We are here to help!

Being on a waitlist for therapy can feel daunting - especially when you’re not sure how long the wait will be or what you can do in the meantime. Our Start-Up Session is designed to bridge that gap, giving you clear, practical support while you wait for an ongoing therapy spot.

This one-off service includes a 90-minute face-to-face parent session and a 30-minute Zoom follow-up, helping you feel informed, empowered, and ready to take action.

Please note: This session is for parents only (no children present) and requires both parents or caregivers to attend where possible.

There is a fee for this service. Contact us to find out more.
