Occupational Therapy for Kids with Disability or Developmental Delay

At Little Hands, we work with kids aged from 0 to 6 years old who have disabilities or developmental delays and their families.

We are a private practice offering individual or group interventions  as well as additional services to support not just your children but you as well.

Our aim is to become part of your child’s team, support them to exceed expectations, break down barriers and help your family as a whole to thrive.

Our therapists are experienced helping children with a wide range of conditions including:

Individual Occupational Therapy in Canberra

Individual Therapy

One of our knowledgeable and dedicated OTs (occupational therapists) works with your child on a regular schedule. The frequency is dependent on your child's individual needs and goals. This could be weekly, fortnightly or monthly with sessions usually being clinic-based.

During school holidays, Little Hands OT also hosts multidisciplinary therapy intensives (SPARK) in collaboration with physiotherapy and speech pathology. Children with goals in all three professions can immerse themselves in goal directed intensive therapy daily for a full week.

Group Interventions

Group therapy allows children to practise skills in a setting which is more similar to their daycare or school experience than individual therapy sessions are.

We run a range of different groups, depending on the needs of our current clients and the availability of resources. Most groups run as one session a week for the ten weeks of a school term. Small groups (3 to 8 children of similar age) work together with the guidance of a trained therapist. We also run groups during the school holidays, typically for a week with daily sessions,

Parent and Community Support Activities

There’s an old saying that it takes a village to raise a child. That’s even more true when your child has additional needs. We want to be part of your village, helping you help your child. Our events for parents and community include:

  • Free parent information nights (fortnightly during term time, free of charge)
on various topics such as mealtimes, social interaction, sleep or managing emotions.

  • Free Baby drop-in sessions (monthly, free of charge) where a physio and an OT can check your baby’s development and address any concerns you have.

  • Free Wine, Whinge and Wisdom Parent Catch-Ups (week 5 of each term) which are a place for our Little Hands OT parents to connect with others who understand the specific challenges families of children with additional needs face.

Our parent and community support events are FREE to attend, but ticketed. Please register in advance to secure your place — this helps us keep accurate attendance numbers and, if you choose to attend virtually, ensures you receive the Zoom link.

Presentations and Interactive Workshops

Little Hands OT delivers engaging presentations and hands-on workshops designed for childcare workers and educators. These sessions equip teams with practical strategies to better support children within the learning environment.

Workshops are tailored to your needs, with a focus on topics most relevant to the children in your care. Areas of expertise include emotional regulation and sensory processing, social and play skills, fine motor and hand skills including handwriting, and many more.
